REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS
Psychosocial Hazards
Workplaces have a responsibility to eliminate, or where that’s not possible, minimise the risk of harm to workers mental health and wellbeing caused by hazards.
MHET offer a range of services to support you in addressing regulatory requirements of Psychosocial Hazards, Psychological Safety and Hazard Identification.
What are
Psychosocial Hazards?
According to SafeWork Australia, psychosocial hazards are any hazards in a workplace that arise from or in relation to:
- the design or management of work
- the working environment
- plant at a workplace, or
- workplace interactions or behaviours; and
- may cause psychological and physical harm.
The factors at work that may be a hazard include:
- Job demands
- Low job control
- Poor support
- Lack of role clarity
- Poor organisational change management
- Inadequate reward and recognition
- Poor organisational justice
- Traumatic events or material
- Remote or isolated work
- Poor physical environment
- Violence and aggression
- Bullying
- Harassment including sexual harassment
- Conflict or poor workplace relationships and interactions
Where the above factors cause stress to a worker there is an increased risk of harm, particularly where the stress is frequent and prolonged over time.
The harm caused may be psychological and/or physical in nature.
